Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in first public event as married couple

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have made their debut public engagement as a married couple as guests of honour at a lavish charity gala dinner.

The couple joined a star-studded guest list for the event at Perks Field, Kensington Palace, on Thursday night marking the 10th anniversary of the Absolute Return for Kids (ARK) charity.

The event also marked the start of the Duchess's philanthropic work as a member of the Royal family.

Celebrities including Liz Hurley, Jemima Khan and David Furnish were among the 1,000 guests attending the black-tie function, for which tickets cost a minimum of £5,000 per head.

The Duke announced that his wife, wearing a dress that cost close to £4000, had joined the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, which raises money for causes associated with young people.

In his first public speech as a married man, the Duke announced that the Duchess of Cambridge had joined him and his brother Prince Harry as a patron of their Foundation for young people.
